The Influential Wines Of Charles Krug by Scott Greenberg

When you have the most famous family name in California winemaking and also own the oldest winery in Napa Valley, the word that comes to mind is "stewardship." Stewardship for the land, stewardship for the wine, and stewardship for the legacy. That is the fundamental philosophy at the core of Charles Krug Winery.

Ken's Wine Guide - October 28, 2012
Here's a nice review of our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon - Yountville, Napa Valley: This opaque and dark ruby colored Cabernet tied for second place in our big blind Cab tasting in September. It opens with a ripe blueberry and boysenberry bouquet with hints of caramel and leather. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, rich and concentrated. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry with notes of acai berry and hints of vanilla oak. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins linger for quite a while. The panel concluded that this was a big boy wine and would appeal to fans of Aussie Shiraz. They suggested pairing it with roast duck with a raspberry glaze or grilled Colorado rack of lamb at Bistro du Midi in Boston. Serve it near the fireplace on a cold winter's night. Enjoy - KWGT

Charles Krug Winery Goes Solar

Napa Valley Register, October 5, 2012 - ST. HELENA — The Peter Mondavi family is installing a 1.2-megawatt solar energy system at its Charles Krug winery in St. Helena. The system is scheduled to become operational in December, and once completed, is expected to cover more than half of the winery’s energy needs. Photovoltaic solar panels will be installed on the Charles Krug Winery rooftops and atop a new tank canopy to be built over the winery’s outdoor fermentation tanks. The new canopy will also provide shade during the hot weather at harvest time and will reduce the energy needed to cool the tanks.
