2002 Charles Krug Limited Release IX Clone
Heavy rain in early winter was followed soon after by warm weather, resulting in an early bud-break. Despite some late winter cold spells, anti-frost measures were successful, and no fruit was damaged. Normal spring temperatures resulted in blooming from the second half of May, and the favorable conditions led to a very good fruit set. Summer temperatures were normal with the exception of two heat waves in July where the mercury hit 110 to 112 degrees. These temperature spikes caused some sunburn damage, particularly to young plants. Harvest began in late August. Temperatures were moderate throughout the end of picking and no rain fell. Fruit quality was excellent.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of cocoa, black licorice, white pepper and mint. Soft, supple, silky tannins with coffee bean on the finish.
