2007 Harvest Begins at Charles Krug

Today, August 15, marked the beginning of the Charles Krug Winery 2007 harvest with sauvignon blanc grapes being harvested in the very early morning hours (our night picking protocol to preserve the fruit quality of the sauv blanc grape) followed by the first crush of this year's vintage.
Peter and Marc toasted the event with all the employees here at the winery and Peter christened the grapes with a bottle of our 2006 signature style Sauvignon Blanc, Adolfo's first released varietal since joining the Charles Krug team.
A mild growing season is helping to bring about excellent quality grapes for this year's harvest. With a near-record dry winter and consistent spring and summer temperatures (and no major heat spikes) brought this harvest in 13 days earlier than last year. A 23.5 brix was recorded for the sugar content of the grapes and a similar harvest tonnage to last year is expected.
Sauvignon blanc grapes will continue to be harvested for the next three to four weeks and merlot is expected to follow shortly. Additionally, the 36-acre block of sauvignon blanc behind the winery office will be harvested for the first time since it was planted three years ago.
We anticipate a solid vintage and look forward to producing more stellar wines!
