Wine Auction Brings Brothers 'Ancora una Volta'

Brothers Robert Mondavi, 92, and Peter Mondavi, 91, celebrate the auction of their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel at the 26th Annual Auction Napa Valley
June 6, 2006 - History was made once again at the 26th Annual Auction Napa Valley with a barrel of 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon by brothers Robert and Peter Mondavi. Lot 43, won by Vintner Koerner Rombauer of Rombauer Vineyards, brought $180,000.
For a second year, the Lot was an opportunity to celebrate the unique contributions of Peter and Robert Mondavi to Napa Valley wine history and the world of wine. The two pioneers and their families - still active in the wine world - joined ancora una volta (translated - together again) to create a great barrel of wine.
The Mondavis Lot was a chance to participate in the evolution of a world-class wine from the finest grapes of their vineyards. The 2005 vintage has already been acclaimed as one of the best in recent years.
On Sunday, June 4th 2006, Rombauer and five guests tasted the wine in its infancy, joining Peter and Robert, followed by lunch with the families at Robert's home with an art tour and champagne on the tower.
Once aging is completed, the wine will be bottled in 60 etched, numbered magnums with a unique label depicting the union of these two Napa Valley icons. Every bottle will have an etched signature of the brothers.
In August 2007, Rombauer and fifteen guests will join Peter and Robert and their families for a grand celebration release dinner. It will truly be an historic event.
